There is No New EUDR Guidance Information

Lately, there have been many updates going around that the EU Commission has published a new version of the EUDR guidance document.

The updates follow an article by EURACTIV ommission updates guidance on anti-deforestation law', that announced new guidance updates on the EUDR, claiming that 'the guidance document follows the current timeline and clarifies key definitions such as “negligible risk”', while in fact the proclaimed update contains no new information.

Many service providers picked up on this article, and thanks to content vastly generated by AI and not cross-checked and verified personally, there has been a lot of false information on alleged new guidance updates.

While there is a new version of the document from 12.08.2025, the new document does not contain any new updates. Our team has carefully compared the two document versions and has concluded that the new version does not contain any new information or content besides revised formatting, such as certain passages being highlighted in bold lettering.

Below are some examples ChatGPT proposed as 'new updates' in the 'new' EUDR guidance document from 12.08.2025. The only difference (compared to the previous version from 15.04.2025) is the formatting of the document.

Examples of the EUDR guidance document show that the new 12.08.2025 version only contains formatting updates

Be Aware of AI-Generated Content on the EUDR

Unfortunately, a lot of service providers rely on AI to generate their content for blog articles or social media posts, also for the EUDR.

AI is (still) error-prone. It lacks context and nuance (for example to know what's new or what's most relevant). It may omit key details or invent things elsewhere.

Most AI tools are 'yes-tellers'. Ask if there is something new inside a document, and it will often produce something that sounds plausible rather than saying there is nothing new. Try it with information you have personally verified.

Please don't base your EUDR due diligence on AI-generated content that you haven't cross-checked. It's tempting and may save you time in the short run, but without verifying sources, you might be relying on false or outdated information.
